Interior vs security doors, and what's included

Doors split cleanly into interior and exterior, and the prices reflect very different jobs. Interior doors are usually wooden flush leaves — a light hollow-core or a heavier solid — for bedrooms, bathrooms and stores; the cheapest plywood room-door leaf bottoms out around ₵185 bare, while a branded interior door that comes with its frame and ironmongery runs into four figures. Exterior and security doors are metal, often steel, sold as a complete set with frame, multi-point locks and keys, and here the range is wide — a mainstream security door is ₵1,750–8,000, and imported Turkish or armoured doors climb far beyond that into a separate luxury tier. When you compare quotes, the biggest source of confusion is what's included: a door leaf alone is not the same purchase as a hung door complete with frame, architraves, hinges and a lockset, and the fitted difference can double the number. For a standard three-bedroom you need one substantial main entrance door, sometimes a second at the rear, and an interior door for each room and bathroom — commonly six to nine leaves — so it is a real line item. Match the door to the opening: security where it protects the compound, moisture-resistant leaves for bathrooms, and remember a door is only as strong as its frame and lock, so a cheap leaf on a flimsy frame is false economy. Installation and the lockset are extra unless the quote says otherwise.

Estimate a full materials bill

Every material feeds a house-build estimate. Materials only — and the totals move with the cedi (see the rate).

MaterialQuantityCost
Cement (50kg bags)495₵50,490
Iron rod (tons, mild)4₵40,000
Blocks (6-inch)3,600₵32,400
Sand (tipper trips)4₵6,400
Chippings (tipper trips)3₵7,800
Roofing sheets50₵10,000
Materials total (~150 sqm)₵147,090

Materials only — this is not a full build cost. It excludes land, labour, finishes, fittings, plumbing, electricals, doors, windows and professional fees, which together often match or exceed the shell. Quantities use Ghana rule-of-thumb ratios and are an estimate.

The cement and iron lines move with the cedi — a 5% move in the rate shifts the cement cost by roughly the same. See today's cedi rate before you lock a delivery schedule.
